An estimated 22.8 million people — more than half the country’s population — are expected to face potentially life-threatening food insecurity this winter. Many are already on the brink of catastrophe.

The American economy runs on poverty, or at least the constant threat of it.

An emerging branch of neuroscience asks a question long on the minds of researchers. Recent stimulus payments make the study more relevant.
